I have two great friends in my life. After 34 years of not seeing either one, social media brought us back together. That was many months ago. We message, text or talk every day. My two friends are very special to me and I’m glad we have found each other. Our intention is to never part again.
A connection with an old friend is much like a connection with an old favorite sweatshirt that you misplaced or your favorite book of all time. I watched “To Kill A Mockingbird” again, for what seems like the 100th time. The love, sentimentality and the warm softness of that movie always manages to warm the soul. I shall never tire of it. I too have my own “Scout” in my everyday life. He is my 7-year-old Jack Russell Terrier with as much personality and spunk as Jean Louise Finch.
The book version was one of my first loves of my young book-reading life. It never faltered in making me feel loved as Jem and Scout were by Atticus and I still laugh at Scout’s ham costume after all these years. It’s a book that is good for the soul, my soul. Books, period, are good for the soul. The propulsion into a real or fictitious world is the catapult into writing expression. Your thoughts are limitless, your ideas know no bounds and your heart will magically open up when you write. Creativity has no border and there is no return once you start. Writing is perpetual freedom, it is profound, it is pure.
Great friends are your springboards for all of your well thought out ideas. Great friends will always give you their true opinion because you know they want you to excel and present the best writing you possibly can. They stand by you anticipating your phone calls to ask if something sounds right, they feel your frustration and they feel your joy at completing that perfect paragraph.
Friends are perfect examples of clear crystal stones. They are solid as the crystal itself and their love is clear.
